A rumour is circulating about the possible release of a live DVD by First Aid Kit. Speculation relates to the show at the Brixton Academy in London on 31st October which, it’s claimed, was filmed for future release on DVD. The rumour appears to be partly based on notices about the recording that were seen in the venue at the time.
Sending love and happy New Years wishes from Oz. Thank you for coming to the shows and singing your rebel hearts out with us. We 💗 you and we’ll see you over the rainbow in 2019. 🥂🌈 https://t.co/mS1aGUAZEm pic.twitter.com/ozYWZL3bIw

It’s certainly true that some of the show was filmed, as the above YouTube clip and Twitter post released by FAK demonstrate – the Twitter clip might be intended as an eventual DVD trailer. It’s also the case that this was a one-off performance where FAK were dressed as characters from the Wizard of Oz. There’s also the inclusion of the Judy Garland cover which makes the whole thing a bit special.
A reason for releasing a live DVD might be to compensate for the scarcity of live concerts in 2019 – Klara and Johanna have hinted that they might be having some time off this year. A DVD might also help to fill the gap between new record releases, as there doesn’t appear to be much in the way of new material ready at the moment apart from a few unreleased tracks from the ‘Ruins’ recording session. However, the basis for the rumour still seems very tenuous at the moment. Bands often film their concerts but this doesn’t necessarily indicate a DVD release. People often jump to wrong conclusions about these things – it’s called ‘wishful thinking’!
If there really is a DVD release in the pipeline, I’m guessing it would happen while FAK are taking a break, which, I’d speculate, might be some time between the end of the current tour (ie. February) and the festivals in June. Alternatively, the release could be in October, as this was indeed a Halloween concert. We’ll just have to wait and see!
